SENEGAL MISSION APRIL 2024

A multidisciplinary team visited the Fann Hospital in Dakar, Senegal from 3 to 12 April as part of a surgical mission initiated by the TEO-TOURAINE association with the support of the Lions Club (Tours-Doyen and Dakar Baobab).

The aim was to provide free neurosurgical care to children with disabilities caused by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.

The team was made up of 6 healthcare professionals (1 neurosurgeon, 1 anaesthetist, 1 paediatrician, 1 nurse anaesthetist, 2 IBODEs) working at Tours University Hospital and Trousseau Hospital (AP-HP). These two organisations have long been partners in the treatment of paediatric pathologies, particularly vertebral and spinal cord malformations, as part of the Spin@ CRMR.

13 patients benefited from this specialised neurosurgical care. The visit was also an opportunity to share information with the neurosurgery team at Fann Hospital about the management of these severe malformations and their needs in terms of improving the care available.
